On July 18, the Center for Public Policy Innovation and Homeland Security Dialogue Forum hosted the second event in a series on Propelling Federal IT into the 21st Century. The keynote and panel discussion centered on cybersecurity and the Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) program.
Congressman John Ratcliffe highlighted legislation he just introduced that would codify the CDM program at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and help it to evolve in response to emerging technologies and the changing threat landscape. To read more about this bill, follow this link.
The panel discussion was moderated by Dr. Cedric Sims of Evermay Consulting Group and featured unique perspectives from Mr. Daniel Kent, Public Sector CTO at Cisco Systems and Mr. Rob Palmer, former Deputy CIO at DHS. The panelists highlighted the complex risk environment across federal networks including the vulnerabilities introduced by legacy systems, opportunities to better incorporate CDM into the organizational structure of an agency, and how the automation of capabilities can create a more secure environment.
