Transforming the Homeland and National Security Missions Through Artificial Intelligence

We are at a critical inflection point in history. Artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging digital technologies have the potential to exponentially enhance human capabilities and the mission of government.

The Department of Defense  released their AI strategy in February of this year recognizing the importance of operationalizing this technology across the services, this includes standing-up the Joint Artificial Intelligence Center. In addition, the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act includes more than $600 million to support cyber and AI research. Within the Intelligence Community, leaders have identified AI as a technology that is particularly useful in analyzing large data sets. The CIA has over 100 AI initiatives already underway.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will see significant advantages by leveraging AI to improve homeland security, enhance the nation’s cyber posture, and provide better customer-centric services to citizens. The emergence of AI will impact all the components within DHS who have diverse mission sets ranging from border security, disaster resilience, and securing government networks.

To support the DHS transition to artificial intelligence, CPPI will host a half-day policy symposium on Transforming the Homeland Security Mission through Artificial Intelligence with senior leaders from government, industry, Congress and academia for a large audience of public and private stakeholders.
