Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) Talks Innovation, Immigration at Oracle Town Hall Meeting

Reston, VA – Oracle, the world’s leading supplier of software for information management, hosted Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) today for a tour of their Reston, VA, facility and a meeting with the company’s senior leadership team to discuss challenges faced by the technology industry.

Following the discussion, Oracle invited their employees and industry leaders from across Northern Virginia’s technology corridor for a town hall meeting with Sen. Kaine. The standing room only crowd heard from the senator about the importance of securing talent in a knowledge-based global economy and addressed hurdles such as immigration reform.

“Immigration is fundamentally a talent issue. How do we attract and train the most talented people in the world to come to Virginia and help grow our economy?” asked Sen. Kaine. “I am encouraged by the bipartisan proposal laid out by a group of senators that recognizes the need for a comprehensive solution to an immigration system that hasn’t been seriously reformed in more than 25 years.”

Senator Kaine also discussed his first bill in the Senate, the Troop Talent Act (S. 700), which boosts the talent pool for technology companies by streamlining credentialing for veterans who have been trained in information technology during their service. Sen. Kaine is committed to supporting veterans by partnering in credentialing efforts, offering internships and training programs, and matching employee gifts to veteran service organizations. Oracle is a key partner with Sen. Kaine in this mission. While touring the facility, Sen. Kaine had the opportunity to meet with Wounded Warriors who were participants in an internship program at Oracle.
